Whole House & Interior Transformation in Wimbledon Village
Set in the heart of Wimbledon Village, London, this beautiful three-bedroom house underwent a complete renovation and transformation. Live Site Studio provided architectural and interior design services, developing a cohesive design for the house and garden that carefully balances contemporary living with the character of its Wimbledon Conservation Area setting.
The project focused on making significantly better use of the existing footprint rather than simply adding more space. Through careful architectural reconfiguration, bespoke joinery and creative space-saving solutions, the house was transformed into a brighter, more flexible and connected home.
At ground-floor level, the clients wanted to create a more open and sociable living environment. The existing layout was reconfigured to improve circulation and create a stronger relationship between the kitchen, dining and living spaces. The enclosed courtyard garden was treated as an extension of the interior, helping this compact London home feel more generous and strengthening the connection between inside and outside.
Throughout the upper floors, subtle architectural changes were used to maximise the available space. Pocket doorshelped spaces feel more open and connected, while alterations to the internal layout allowed bespoke integrated storage to be incorporated within two of the double bedrooms. In the smallest bedroom, a Murphy bunk-bed solution created flexible sleeping accommodation while allowing the room to serve another purpose when the beds were not required.
Interior Design
Our interior design approach was developed alongside the architecture, allowing materials, colours, joinery, furniture and architectural details to form part of one coherent design.
A calm palette of white and light finishes, natural materials and carefully considered black metal detailing runs throughout the home. Black elements within the balustrade, window furniture and selected furnishings reference the traditional ironwork found around the property, providing a subtle connection between the contemporary interiors and the character of Wimbledon Village.
The interiors were also informed by Feng Shui principles, with consideration given to spatial arrangement, material choices and the placement of key elements to encourage balance, natural flow and a sense of calm throughout the house.
Designing Within Wimbledon Conservation Area
Being located within the Wimbledon Conservation Area, changes to the exterior of the property were approached sensitively. The design sought to retain the character and proportions of the existing house while carefully introducing the alterations required to support contemporary and energy efficient lifestyle.
Rather than treating the architecture, interiors and garden as separate elements, the project was developed as a complete home transformation, creating a consistent relationship between spaces, materials and details throughout.
The project demonstrates how thoughtful residential architecture and interior design can transform a compact London property without losing the qualities and character that make the original home special. The clients continue to enjoy a home that is brighter, more connected, flexible and uniquely tailored to the way they live.
